Endorsements

  • The contributors to this fine volume address the problem of pain and suffering not only with powerful insights from their own personal experiences, but also with clarifying pastoral and theological reflection. When people experience hurt and suffering, when they face the confusion associated with many of life's challenges, they want and need practical as well as scriptural guidance.

  • In the early days of my pastoral ministry, I began to learn that there is a hurt in every heart and in every home. While the contributors to this book present many reminders of this tearful reality, they also testify that the grace of God is sufficient to sustain the followers of Jesus in a fallen, broken world.

Description

"Many times a minister will convene, console, and comfort at some calamity, bereavement, or other appointment ordained by the Hand of God. But who consoles and comforts the minister as he goes through his own 'dark night of the soul?' Who acts as pastor to the pastor?"

This line from the preface shows the heart of the editors behind Reason for the Season. This work combines contributions from eleven men who were chosen to cover topics such as—cancer, life-threatening illnesses, natural disaster, chronic health issues, death of a loved one, God's providence—and the unique way that they affected those in ministry.

Pick up this book and be encouraged that though "faith does not protect us from bag things. It does...equip and empower us to deal with life's valleys with a special kind of courage and hope."
