The 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith in Modern English

It is a good cause to make more accessible to our generation the great truths embodied in the 1689 Baptist Confession, and Stan has done good work in bringing them into the English of the 21st Century.

The 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith is one of the most significant and enduring confessional documents in the history of Protestant Christianity — a theological treasure forged in persecution and refined by men who counted the cost of their convictions. It has been tested, tried, and valued for its clarity and faithfulness to God's Word and now, in this edition, the language has been updated to be made accessible to even more Christians desiring to grow in their understanding of the truth. I pray that it will be of use to Christ's church for generations to come.

B.H. Carroll, the founder and first President of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, rightly said, "A church with a little creed is a church with a little life. The more divine doctrines a church can agree on, the greater its power and the wider its usefulness. The fewer its articles of faith, the fewer its bonds of union and compactness." The Second London (1689) Baptist Confession of Faith is a robust, time-tested, faithful summary of key biblical teachings that Baptists have held dear. This modern English version is true to the original while making this excellent confession more accessible to to contemporary readers. I am grateful for its long, wide-spread usefulness and pray it will continue to be a useful tool for God's people for generations to come.
