Description

This work addresses the confusion surrounding the phrase “Christian nationalism,” a term that is often used in conflicting and imprecise ways. Much of the disagreement in contemporary discussion stems not from the concept itself, but from unclear or shifting definitions. As a result, conversations frequently talk past one another, attaching assumptions and associations that may not actually belong to the term as originally intended.

The aim of this booklet is to slow the discussion down and return to careful definition. It urges readers to distinguish between what is actually meant by “Christian nationalism,” what is merely assumed about it, and what is often unfairly attached to the phrase in popular discourse. Only by clarifying these distinctions can Christians begin to think responsibly about the relationship between their faith and the nation they inhabit.

A careful understanding of terms is necessary before meaningful evaluation or judgment can take place.

In this book you will find:

• A clarification of competing definitions of Christian nationalism

• An explanation of how the term is commonly used and misunderstood

• Guidance for distinguishing meaning from cultural association

• A call to careful, precise thinking in Christian political reflection

• Help in evaluating the phrase from a biblical and theological perspective
